Diversity Rainbow

It’s seems a bit strange to write a post in this journal after such a long time of silence. I don’t plan to do it regularly, because it’s meant more as an easy way to keep taps on certain people and communities. However, there is something I feel I must write down, and this is as good a place as any.

I just saw a documentary on president Obama, and it made shivers run down my spine. Now, I’m not an American, nor easily swayed by pretty words and nice rhetoric. Yet there is something about this man that inspires me, much as I may dislike the patriotism that forms such an integral part of his speeches. That doesn’t mean I worship him, see him as the new Messiah (I’m an atheist, I don’t see anybody as any Messiah!), but it does mean that I was overjoyed when he won, that for the first time ever, I watched the inauguration of the American president.

However, I’m 20 years old. I grew up and became interested in politics during Bush’s terms in the Oval Office. As a consequence of that, I must admit that my feelings towards the position of President of the United States in particular and (I’m ashamed to admit) the United States in general, are… not the most pleasant of feelings, shall we say? It’s hard to express, but no matter how hard I tried not to blame the country and it’s people for the President they elected, the distrust was still there.

To feel so hopeful and good about the new President on the one hand, yet still have those old feelings inside me on the other is the most peculiar of feelings. I don’t really know what to feel! It’s almost like I’m betraying myself, however silly that may sound…
I hope this will not last, that I’ll be able to look towards America with the good will it so rightly deserves now. I’m sure I will, given time and Obama remaining faithful to the promises he made. If the first few days of his Presidency are anything to go by, I’m sure he will.

America, congratulations! May this be the start of a new era for you, and the rest of the world as well!

Laughing at you

stands: how do it justice, mind you. It’s a real treat to exist! Anyway, fandom: here I take an hour, after which there too! The judge responded with things he had insulted the fire at the candy. Well, I come! :D Just watch out that I come! :D I’m planning on Friday night. And guess what the wigs were about the (rather grumpy) judge was all dressed up with some friends from the things like: to/too, of/off, whether/weather, etcetera.  Thanks, and post still have a great deal of judicial rulings, it normally these results the International Moot Court of fun.   Wow, that I went to be canon (and I’m planning on my live or Turkey ? We’ll see.   Wow, that something worth looking forward to was shipping this one was one was very formal indeed. The thing is, it will know it’s was right! (the defendant or McGonagall (other than Ron/Hermione. I’ve been brave enough to take it seems like this journal. There’s nothing to save my live or McGonagall (other than Ron/Hermione. I’ve gotta share in the UK , Turkey , Belgium or have fitted in traditional wear, and never been decided by the things like: to/too.

...

No, I haven't gone insane. I've just discovered LJ Markov Random Text Generator, it takes random words from your journal and strings them together into some incoherent rambling. It's great! XD
Thanks to babb_chronicles!

Hmmm coffee!
Happy St. Nicolas day! / Fijne Sinterklaas! :D

Well, I went to the Hague yesterday, to the International Moot Court (IMC) I wrote about earlier. I’m going to write down something about it, before I forget it all.

Also: my question from the last post still stands: how do you make text links on here? Also, if anybody’s reading this: if you see any spelling or grammar mistakes, don’t hesitate to tell me. While my English may be alright, I still have trouble with things like: to/too, of/off, whether/weather, etcetera.

Thanks, and goodbye! :D

I’m having real trouble not to laugh too hard about this news (Dutch):

http://www.trouw.nl/laatstenieuws/laatstenieuws/article841199.ece/UPDATE_2._Zaken_met_onbevoegde_rechter_moeten_over#readmore

For all non-Dutchies: eleven court cases have to be retried, because one of the three judges was not yet qualified as a judge. I just can’t stop wondering how that slipped her mind…

It’s also the first time that something like this happened (thankfully), so it’s quite interesting to see how the courts are ruling. So many issues have already been decided by years of judicial rulings, it sometimes seems like there’s nothing new to be added anymore.

Another thing that I’m really looking forward to is the International Moot Court:

http://www.internationalmootcourt.com/

I’m planning on going there with some friends from uni. It’ll be interesting to compare and contrast different legal styles, especially those types that use juries (‘cause the Dutch system doesn’t). I still haven’t decided which ones to visit though: Belgium or Sweden? UK or Turkey? We’ll see.

P.S. To anybody who might be reading this: how do I create links with words? I mean something like “click here!” and it will link you to the correct site. I’m sure it’s perfectly simple, but I haven’t found it yet…

Okay, you got me! After all these years of resisting, of telling myself nobody would be interested (still think that ;)), I got myself a Livejournal. What made me change my mind?

Grindeldore.

Oh yeah, I was shipping this long before Rowling made her announcement, and I was content. But now? I’ve gotta share in the love! I’m really no shipper, I never cared whether Harry ended up with Ginny, Luna or McGonagall (other than Ron/Hermione. I’ve hated that pairing ever since it became obvious it would be canon (and I’m not even a disgruntled Harmonian!)). But Grindeldore latched unto me during DH, and never let go.

Now, don’t expect many post in this journal. There’s nothing to make it stand out: I’m not very witty, can’t draw to save my live or have any other talent to make this something worth reading. I take it nobody is waiting for another “Here’s what I ate on Friday night. And guess what came on the T.V.?!”-journal, so I won’t bore you with it. In fact, I’ve been boring you for far to long… What are you still doing here? Go do something constructive with your time! Invent the cure to cancer, make world peace or something!

See you later,

Moi.
